Can Pickleball Save the World?

Can Pickleball Save the World?

Can Pickleball save the world? Well, nooooo. It is just my wishful thinking. Everything has a cycle and every cycle ends. Pickleball’s cycle has reached 50 years, but I don’t think it’s peak has yet been reached. You may ask, why would anyone think that Pickleball could save the world in the first place? Well, for one thing, ping pong did help establish better relations between US and China in 1971. Secondly, the world does not need more workers. In the not too distant future, robots are going to be doing millions of jobs done now by human men and women. The developed world does not need more growth; what developed nations do need though is job sharing and much much more time for recreational activities.

Pickleball is the fastest growing recreational sport in the USA and footholds are being established around the world. What other sport/game can be played all across age groups, promote physical fitness & health and create an incredible social environment for smiles, laughter and bringing people together?
Playing Pickleball might very well generate enormous financial savings by getting people up and off their couches and/or removing the iPhone from their clutches. The positive mental and physical outcomes of playing Pickleball should not be understated. Yes, injuries can happen and that topic will be addressed at a later date. Nevertheless, Pickleball could well become the most valuable sport in the world for medical cost savings alone.
So, no, Pickleball won't save the world, but it can help make people across the generations (children, teenagers, parents, grandparents) into active healthy fit people. In coming together to play a game that is fun, social and in varying degrees competitive, not only would their health benefit, but new friendships would blossom, making all of them a little bit more willing to live cooperatively with each other…and that just might save the world.
